I have read a lot of articles that talk about being present and being ‘here and now’. Even I have mentioned the same in my last few posts. This is a practice that can be cultivated over time and requires consistent efforts and patience.
At workplace, when we have multiple things to juggle with, it can cause a bit of a stress and being present can help in changing the way we think about the situation.
But how do we practice it?
Sharing a few thought here:
Tip #1 - Avoiding multitasking: You can do multiple things but try doing one thing at a time
Tip #2 - Observe the space: your surroundings, the space, the color, texture, quality (When was the last time you looked at texture of your wall?).
Tip #3 - Observe how your body feels: A quick body scan can divert your attention from your thoughts to your body.
Tip #4 - Pause: When you find yourself thinking about yesterday or tomorrow, take a moment and PAUSE! Catch that thought and replace it by consciously making an effort to think about- ‘What specific actions can I take right now?’
Will this help?
No, if you do it once and leave the practice.
Yes, if you stay consistent with the practice everyday.
What helps you stay present?
